I can’t believe I haven’t written in so long and it’s not that I don’t want to. I often think about this blog and ways to improve it, but alas other things (i.e. work) always get in the way and I end up prioritising them. Especially being a writer for a living and Neon Music is a lot more popular and therefore much busier in the past year which is great, but it’s hard keeping on top of emails and artist submissions let alone actually writing about the music! Thankfully we have a team of fantastic team of writers with more coming on board. Recent highlights have included an interview with ‘Rooftops’ star Nico Santos while he was in London, IfeFinch who has a new EP and was a pleasure to speak to. Narzra interviewed her favourite duo Tyde and we premiered Fabian’s Discotheque which is the perfect introduction to summer. Emma Reynolds had a fantastic night at Ministry of Sound last weekend and saw Jonas Blue. And look out for an interview with ‘September Song’ star JP Cooper coming soon too.

And in the meantime, let’s discuss beauty! Due to work commitments I haven’t spent too much time browsing beauty products as much as I would like to. And the same goes for magazines as I always used to find interesting products there. Has anyone noticed there just are not that many around any more? I miss Glamour – I know they have a quarterly issue and the current one is beauty themed, but I’m not that crazy about it. Grazia seems to have thinned down more and more and when I flick through not as much catches my eye. I do enjoy Hello Monthly and for £1 you can’t really go wrong and I used to subscribe to Marie Claire and Vogue but at nearly £5 an issue now I tend to spend my money elsewhere. Usually coffee or treats for my son! Magazines are definitely luxuries now rather than a regular weekly or monthly buy. The weekend supplements are good though.
However, I still love browsing physical makeup and skincare when I can. I needed a new foundation recently as my Urban Decay Naked Skin ran out and I came across L.A. Girl PRO. Coverage Foundation in an independent pharmacy (always a good tip for discovering unusual and not so common brands.) So, the L.A. Girl foundation says it’s high-definition long wear illuminating foundation and I have to agree. It is really smooth and silky with a medium, but buildable coverage. Basically, I like to be able to see my freckles, but if I used many layers they would be covered up. I am using the Natural colour which is a little bit dark during the winter when my skin is pale but seeing as we have had some sun of late and I have some colour on my face it’s the perfect colour. In colder months I mix it with a lighter foundation. This does really give my skin a glow and as it’s light I know it can still breathe. It also lasts all day (with a primer/BB/CC cream underneath) and you don’t need much. It was also £9 so an absolute bargain and just as good as more expensive brands.
As I mentioned I do like to use something underneath my foundation and in the summer months on its own instead of. I am a huge fan of the Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturiser and that is my main holiday staple but for everyday use all year round it’s good to have a drugstore brand and you can never go wrong with Bourjois. I asked for some advice on BB Creams in my local Superdrug and was recommended the Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream and I’m really happy with it. On the tube it says it contains Apricot for anti-fatigue, Green for anti-redness and White for anti-dark spots. I’m not sure about all of that as they are not too obvious on my skin but it does give the ‘fresh and luminous result’ it claims too and it also has SPF 15 and 24hr hydration. It’s lightweight but there is some coverage so it can be used on its own (I tend to put it on for the morning school run so I don’t look like the walking dead) and it sits nicely under foundation too. It’s £9.99 and I use Light Beige. If I’m honest I do prefer Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturiser but this is great for everyday use.
What foundation and BB/CC Cream are you using?
So that’s it for now! Apologies for being away for so long, but I will be writing again soon and more frequently. It’s amazing what motivation you can get when WordPress take money from your account for your annual renewal!!
