TikTok’s Most Viral Health and Wellness Trends from 2024: What Actually Works?

Explore TikTok’s top wellness trends of 2024, from exercise snacking to functional drinks and more!

If there’s one thing TikTok loves, it’s a good wellness trend. From peculiar sleeping habits to quirky fitness routines, 2024 gave us plenty to talk about – and try out.

But which trends are worth keeping for 2025, and which should we quietly leave behind?

As someone who’s spent an embarrassing amount of time scrolling through #WellnessTok this year (purely for research purposes, of course), I’ve rounded up the most interesting health crazes that dominated our feeds.

TikTokers embracing their inner starfish during ‘floor time’

Exercise ‘Snacking’ (Actually Quite Brilliant)

Remember when we thought workouts had to be hour-long ordeals? 2024 said “no” to that.

Exercise snacking – doing short bursts of movement throughout the day – became massive this year.

If you’re not sure what this means exactly think squats while waiting for the kettle, or a quick walking meeting.

Studies show it’s genuinely effective for fitness, and honestly, who doesn’t have time for a 3-minute workout?

Mouth Taping (Proceed with Caution)

Oh, TikTok. The platform that convinced people to tape their mouths shut while sleeping.

While some swear it helps with snoring and promotes nasal breathing, maybe consult a doctor before attempting this one.

Floor Time (Surprisingly Therapeutic)

There’s something oddly comforting about lying flat on your floor after a stressful day.

This trend saw millions of people embracing their inner starfish, and mental health experts back it up as a grounding technique. Who knew?

Embracing the Scottish art of ‘hurkle-durkle’ – the posh way of saying you’re having a lie-in

Vitamin E Gummies (The Year’s Biggest Supplement Story)

These little chewables exploded on TikTok, with claims about improving skin health.

While they’re not magic pills, vitamin E is important for skin health – just don’t expect miracle results overnight.

Bright Light Therapy (Actually Science-Backed)

This trend gained serious traction during the darker months, and unlike some TikTok wellness fads, it’s backed by proper research for helping with seasonal mood changes.

Plus, it’s much safer than some of the platform’s more questionable mental health hacks.

TikTokers combining their daily walk with meditation – because why not kill two wellness birds with one stone?

Wall Pilates (Still Going Strong)

Pilates remains a fan favourite, but in 2024, wall Pilates took over TikTok. Using a wall as support for Pilates movements made it approachable for beginners while upping the challenge for enthusiasts.

Its versatility and core-strengthening benefits mean this trend isn’t going anywhere.

The ‘Morning Shed’ (Mixed Results)

Imagine going to bed looking like you’re prepared for deep-sea diving – face masks, hair wraps, the works.

While some aspects make sense (protecting your hair while you sleep), dermatologists aren’t thrilled about layering 15 different products on your face overnight.

Hurkle-Durkle (We’re Not Making This Up)

This Scottish term for staying in bed long after you should get up became 2024’s favourite way to justify lazy mornings.

While it’s delightful occasionally (or even on a Sunday), maybe don’t make it your daily routine.

@groundedinneutral

who else loves a hurkle durkle? ?? ? Here I was calling it “laying in” completely unaware that there was this fun phrase floating around! It’s one of my favorite things to do on a weekend morning but sometimes I’ll wake up early on a weekday just to hurkle durkle. ps. It’s still a true hurkle durkle if you get up to bring coffee/breakfast back to bed. It’s actually ideal. Only a couple days away from a weekend hurkle durkle! ??follow @groundedinneutral for more cozy home content ??shop my feed on LTK & Amazon Storefront ?#neutralbedroom #bedroomdecor #bedding #makethebed #cozyhome #cozyvibes #neutralhomedecor ? ?neutral home decor, bedroom styling, cozy home, hygge, bedding, sheets, duvet, bed styling

Heart Health Supplements (Worth Watching)

With searches up 75.8% on TikTok, heart health supplements gained serious attention.

While supplements can’t replace a healthy lifestyle, this trend at least shows we’re thinking more about cardiovascular health.

Longevity-Focused Fitness (Actually Promising)

This trend shifted focus from quick fixes to long-term health benefits. Instead of crushing intense workouts daily, people started thinking about movement that serves them well into their golden years. It’s quite smart, really.

Another TikTok trend – taking the plunge into ice baths in 2024

Ice Baths (Cold and Controversial)

Ice baths, boosted by fitness influencers, made a splash in 2024. Proponents touted benefits like reduced inflammation and mental clarity.

But let’s be honest: not everyone enjoys freezing their bits off. While studies support some claims, it’s not a necessity unless you’re training intensely.

Protein Diet Cokes (Just… Why?)

Mixing protein powder with Diet Coke became a thing. While protein is important, maybe we could find more appetising ways to consume it. Your taste buds deserve better.

Airport rules in full effect: When pizza for breakfast is completely acceptable because normal rules don’t apply on stressful days

Airport Rules (Mental Health Game-Changer)

This unusual coping mechanism involves treating stressful days like you’re at an airport – where normal rules don’t apply.

If you fancy a pizza at 10am then just go for it. Need a random nap? Totally acceptable.

While not a long-term strategy, it’s a surprisingly effective way to be kinder to yourself during tough times.

Acupressure Pillows (Low Risk, Low Reward)

Acupressure tools like spiky pillows became TikTok’s answer to stress relief.

Fans claimed better sleep and reduced tension, while sceptics raised eyebrows at the lack of robust evidence.

At least it’s low-risk and relaxing – even if it’s just a placebo effect.

Habit Stacking (Actually Useful)

Habit stacking became a viral sensation for its simplicity: pairing new habits with existing ones.

Want to meditate daily? Tie it to brushing your teeth. While not groundbreaking, it’s effective for building routines.

Functional Drinks (Worth a Sip)

From mushroom coffee to adaptogenic teas, functional beverages took over our feeds.

While not all deliver on their promises, this trend shows we’re thinking more holistically about what we drink.

Okinawa Diet Revival (A Healthy Throwback)

The Okinawa diet – inspired by the Japanese islanders known for their longevity – re-emerged as a wellness darling.

Packed with nutrient-dense, plant-based foods, this trend actually holds water.

However, cultural appropriation concerns popped up, reminding us to respect its roots.

Relax Gummies (A Chill Option)

Relax gummies – often infused with CBD or melatonin – promised a chilled-out vibe.

While they’re not a magic bullet for stress, they can help some people wind down. Just make sure you’re not using them as a shortcut to avoid deeper issues.

The ‘morning shed’ routine in action

Creativity Naps (Fun, but Fanciful)

Dubbed the “genius nap” by TikTok creators, these short naps are supposed to boost creative thinking.

Inspired by great minds like Salvador Dalí, this quirky trend might not work for everyone but has some anecdotal appeal. Who doesn’t love an excuse for a quick snooze?

HMR Diet (Short-Term Fix)

The HMR (Health Management Resources) diet – a low-calorie meal replacement plan – resurfaced as a TikTok standout.

While it can help with weight loss, experts warn it’s not sustainable long-term. As always, balance is key.

Looking Ahead to 2025

The best trends to carry forward?

Exercise snacking, bright light therapy, wall Pilates, and longevity-focused fitness have solid science behind them.

Functional drinks and the Okinawa diet also show promise, particularly when backed by research.

As for what to leave behind?

Maybe skip the protein Diet Coke and excessive skincare layering. And while floor time can be therapeutic, perhaps we don’t need to document every session on TikTok.

Remember that TikTok trends come and go, but the best wellness practices are usually the least spectacular ones – regular movement, decent sleep, and balanced nutrition.

Although, like with exercise snacking, the platform sometimes gets it right!
