Dive into Dexter’s Dark Origins: America’s Favourite Serial Killer Returns in Dexter: Original Sin

Fans of the beloved Showtime series Dexter have been eagerly waiting to see more of America’s favourite blood-splatter analyst turned serial killer ever since the controversial series finale aired over a decade ago. 

The finale of Dexter: New Blood (2021) shocked and saddened us all but it has been announced that the acclaimed crime drama is making a comeback with an exciting new prequel series titled Dexter: Origins, which will explore the formative years and traumatic childhood events that first put Dexter Morgan on his dark path.

Originally airing for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013, Dexter starred Michael C. Hall as a forensic scientist leading a double life as a vigilante killer. 

The upcoming series Dexter: Origins showcasing on Paramount+ and Showtime will delve into his early years as a young cop, showcasing his journey from college graduation to joining the Miami Metro Police.

Patrick Gibson, known for his roles in Shadow and Bone and The OA, has been cast as the young Dexter Morgan in the upcoming prequel series. 

Set 15 years before the first season of Dexter, this highly-anticipated prequel will transport viewers to sun-drenched 1991 Miami and a young Dexter in the making.

Dexter: Origins will follow Dexter (played by Gibson) during his formative years as he transitions from a student to an avenging serial killer. 

This origin story promises to explore the pivotal events that shaped Dexter’s infamous code. 

His adoptive father and homicide detective Harry will be back, this time played by Golden Globe winner Christian Slater. 

Molly Brown (Evil and Senior Year) steps into the role of a young Debra Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive sister, adding another layer of intrigue to their complex dynamic.

The storyline details Dexter seeking guidance from his adoptive Harry to manage his dark urges, adopting the moral code that allows him to target and eliminate individuals he deems deserving, all while evading law enforcement detection. 

Concurrently, Dexter embarks on a career within the police force, testing his ability to cover his tracks while pursuing his lethal mission.

But Dexter: Original Sin isn’t just about revisiting familiar faces. The 10-episode limited series promises a fresh perspective. 

Set against the backdrop of a vibrant 90s Miami, the show delves into a new cast of characters and a central mystery that will undoubtedly test Dexter’s burgeoning skills – both as a detective and a vigilante.

In addition to this origin story, there are rumours Showtime is planning another season of the sequel series Dexter: New Blood, focusing on the adventures of Dexter’s son, Harrison. However, this hasn’t been confirmed.
